IBSP is a research team of UMR 8576 (UGSF, University of Lille)
dedicated to the study of biological mechanisms
governing the biosynthesis, structure, and function
of storage polysaccharides in photosynthetic organisms.
Born from the merger of several teams with complementary expertise, IBSP adopts an integrative approach combining functional genomics, comparative biochemistry, phylogenomics, multi-omics, imaging, and biophysics.
Our research aims to:
Understand the evolutionary dynamics of storage polysaccharide metabolism.
Explore the diversity of starch initiation mechanisms.
Decipher the processes of polysaccharide phase transition.
Understand the impact of variations in sub-optimal conditions on metabolism.
Dissect the molecular mechanisms involved in the establishment of photosymbioses.
IBSP is involved in numerous academic and industrial partnerships, both at national and international levels, and contributes to a culture of interdisciplinarity by interacting with units in physics, chemistry, biotechnology, and applied electronics.
Training and Supervision
at the heart of our activity
IBSP places central importance on research-based training, in close connection with the programs of the University of Lille, in biology and physiology, biotechnologies, biochemistry, and microbiology.
Team members actively participate in supervising interns, master’s students, doctoral candidates, and young researchers within the framework of research projects led by the team.
Recent Scientific Works
The members of the IBSP team regularly publish in international peer-reviewed journals in the fields of polysaccharide biology, plant biology, biochemistry, microbiology, and omics approaches.
These publications demonstrate the diversity of subjects studied, the methodologies employed, and the team’s national and international scientific collaborations.

The IBSP Team
The IBSP team brings together researchers with complementary expertise in functional genomics, polysaccharide biology, biochemistry, microbiology, and biophysics.
This disciplinary richness fuels a collaborative research dynamic, within the UMR UGSF and in connection with numerous national and international partners.
Join Us
The IBSP team regularly recruits doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, engineers, interns, or technicians to join its research projects. Positions can be funded via ANR projects, doctoral scholarships, or within the framework of industrial collaborations (e.g., CIFRE).
We also welcome unsolicited applications from young researchers wishing to submit a funding proposal (Marie Curie, EMBO, ANR JCJC…).
