Christophe D’Hulst

University Professor

Genetics, biochemistry, starch metabolism, functional genomics

He is a Professor of Exceptional Class (Échelon 2) at the University of Lille and member of the Structural and Functional Glycobiology Unit (UGSF UMR8576 CNRS – U. Lille). His research career has focused on the study of plant starch metabolism and structure, particularly in model organisms including Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and Arabidopsis thaliana, as well as in the potato (Solanum tuberosum).
He has authored over fifty peer-reviewed publications in leading journals and coordinates major research programs addressing starch initiation, amylopectin structure, debranching enzyme functions, and cold-induced sweetening in potatoes.
Beyond his research contributions, he holds substantial administrative responsibilities, serving as chair of the UGSF between 2013 and 2020 and starting again in 2026. He is Scientific Advisor to the Hcéres evaluation agency (Research department, field SVE2).
His expertise in plant glycobiology and demonstrated leadership in both academic governance and international research initiatives establish him as a prominent figure in the field of plant biotechnology and carbohydrate metabolism.
