Camille Locquet

Doctoral Student

Starch, potato, starch granule initiation, CRISPR/Cas9

Camille holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, specializing in Biochemistry, from the University of Artois, followed by a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Food Sciences, with a specialization in ‘Innovations in Plant, Enzymatic, and Microbial Biotechnologies’ from the University of Lille.

She completed her end-of-studies internship at the Charles Viollette Institute before joining the IBSP team, led by Prof. Christophe D’Hulst as an assistant engineer.

For two years, she worked there on understanding the mechanism of cold-induced sweetening in potatoes.
In 2022, Camille obtained CIFRE PhD funding in partnership with the seed company Florimond Desprez, under the supervision of Dr. Fabrice Wattebled.

Her doctoral research focuses on starch granule initiation in potatoes, a process that is still poorly understood but important for yields and the technological quality of tubers. She combines genetic approaches (CRISPR/Cas9), biochemical analyses, and fine characterization of starch to elucidate the roles of non-enzymatic proteins such as LESV and ESV1.
