From <\/span>September 14 to 18, 2025<\/b><\/span>, several members of the IBSP team participated in the <\/span>Alamy 9<\/b><\/span> conference, a major event for the starch research community.<\/span>\"\"Christophe D\u2019Hulst \u2013 Invited Lecture<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

He presented <\/span>My sweet tuber<\/i><\/span>, a synthesis of work aimed at understanding <\/span>Cold-Induced Sweetening (CIS)<\/b><\/span> in potatoes. Through a global proteomic and metabolomic approach using <\/span>FT-ICR MS<\/b><\/span>, his team explores the physiological mechanisms that allow certain varieties to better resist CIS, a central issue for the industrial quality of tubers.<\/span><\/p>\n

His poster, LIKE EARLY STARVATION is involved in the regulation of starch granule initiation in potato (Solanum tuberosum cv. <\/i>D\u00e9sir\u00e9e) tubers<\/i><\/span>, focused on <\/span>CRISPR\/Cas9 lesv<\/b><\/span> mutants, which show a multiplication of small starch granules in tubers, resembling the phenotypes of <\/span>isa1\/isa2<\/b><\/span> mutants. Analyses reveal a key role of <\/span>LESV<\/b><\/span> in granule initiation, as well as a more phosphorylated and digestible starch.<\/span><\/p>\n

The presentation entitled \u201cCharacterization of Chlamydial Debranching Enzyme Activity: An Ancestral Contribution to Plant Starch Metabolism\u201d focused on the enzymatic characterization of debranching activities (GlgX) in obligate intracellular bacteria belonging to the phylum Chlamydiae. In line with phylogenetic approaches, which suggest a chlamydial origin for isoamylase-type debranching activities in Archaeplastida, the overall results indicate that the GlgX activity of chlamydiales was pre-adapted for starch formation and was therefore likely retained in the last common ancestor of Archaeplastida. <\/p>\n

These contributions highlight the <\/span>strong involvement of the IBSP team<\/b><\/span> in understanding the mechanisms of starch formation and modification, from gene to tuber phenotype.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
